Greece

Athens

I made my first trip to the cradle of democracy was this past March. Greece was in the midst of the holy celebration, one I was not able to stay for, Easter.

Visiting a country during a religious time can be a logistical nightmare at worse and wonderful a best. I good fortune to have dear friends in the country. My penpal for the last few years and her sister.

We will get to them later.

Touch down in Athens Greece, well just outside the city at the Athens International Airport.  Once I had touched down it was time to locate transportation. Luckily, I located the metro and the locals speak English. (side note: learn more Greek).

There was a metro pass sold at the station for about 40 euros that included one trip to the airport and one from the airport along with, unlimited metro uses. This is the best method of transport in and around the city. It also has fixed fares, so no shady taxi drivers.

Also keep an eye on your belongings. And please for the love of love gravitational regularity use: a locking purse, or backpack, or suitcase. My travel companion had his wallet stolen. While not his fault it would have been more secure in either my locking purse or in his locking backpack.
