Italy and Greece
This last year, 2018, I went to Italy and Greece for my birthday. This happened to coincide with Easter for both the Catholic Church and the Orthodox church.
This made the city more crowded and empty and confusing and wonderful at the same time. And while wonderful, it is not something that I would suggest without further research. To visit during these times is to hand yourself over to the will of the people. To have all plans and schedules turned upside down to accommodate the religious event- as it should be. To experience a city and country in preparation for one of its holiest days and to move and live and eat like a local and tourist.
There is no other choice. Sometimes you must jump in feet first and figure how to swim.
